I'm still totally into my game. My little warrior is trucking along nicely, moving quickly toward level 31. I've met some really cool, helpful people who are showing me the ropes. The RP leaves a bit to be desired, but I can live without that at the moment. For now, I'm probably studying more on how to be a better warrior (outside of actual playtime) than I am for my classes. There's a reason for this.

There's a weekly column on WoW Insider called "The Care and Feeding of Warriors." A recent edition asked the question Why we War?. In other words, what makes the warrior class worth the trouble. The comments yielded this absolutely beautiful bit of writing by Kurdon (comment number 20 from the above link):

The life of a warrior, with the right gear and expertise, is a multi-faceted plethora of beautiful moments full of carnage, grace, and skill. I submit to you, a montage of possibilities:

Things are good. School is easy. Work is boring. Kids are annoying, and awesome, and really, really too smart for their own good. [info]evilwenchesinc is OMGHOLYSHIT THE BEST FRIEND EVAH!!

You might want a little more detail on that last one.

Once upon a time, I had a viola. I've played since I was 11, but didn't get the viola in the story until I was 18. About 3 years ago, it was sneakily stolen by this bitch who has not returned my calls in quite some time. The worst part of the story is, I really had no recourse short of walking right up to that toxic cunt's house and taking the cost of the viola out of her ass, because I'm sure it's long gone. Needless to say, I'm a big giant wimp, so I didn't do that, but instead chose to pout about it and huff about the house for a bit whenever I happened to think about it.

Enter teh Lord High Queen of All BFFs.

About a week ago, TLHQABFFs calls me up and tells me to turn on my messenger so she can send me a link. The link was a lovely picture of a beautiful viola outfit--shiny and lovely and awesome and lovely and aweseome. I told her so, and she said, "Good. It will be here in 7 to 10 days." I kinda sputtered for a minute and got excited for her. You see, TLHQABFFs kinda really likes trying out new musical instruments, and I had just got around to thinking maybe she might need some help with it, and how I'd be glad to show her some stuff, when it dawned on me. She didn't get it for her. She got it for me.

I of course, wept like a baby, all while telling her that she really didn't have to do this and OMGHOLYSHIT BEST BFF EVAH.

It was delivered today, and TLHQABFFs came and rescued me and snickered while I talked myself into skipping class and going with her instead to declare my undying devotion and also to pet my new shiny.

The moral of this story is that I have a new viola, and you don't. *clearly wins*

On a mostly unrelated note, I've been playing WoW, which is totally my excuse for having dropped off the face of the planet. I've never played before, but I'm getting the hang of it. For example, I learned today that 5 lvl 18-20 whatevahs will get their happy asses stomped within 5 minutes of entering the deadmines, but that's because we were doing it all wrong. Turns out that all I really needed was one lvl 70 paladin with a bit of a crush to gleefully drag my happy lvl 18 warrior ass through there after instructing me to "Stand back. I'll take care of these guys, you kill the sparklies." And so he did. Gleefully, which I already mentioned, but he was having so much fun that I really thought I ought to mention it again. And I got to keep all the loot. In conclusion: most useful crush that anyone has ever had on me. I <3 this game.

After that, my darling little sister and best ex-step-son EVAH Brandon are going to drive my mildly drunken ass to the midnight showing of OotP. Best night out ever, and I don't even have to drive!

I know it's pretty likely that most of you have seen this, but if not please watch. Olbermann managed to give voice to the anger that has rendered so many of us dumbly appalled . On that note, I wish those of you who observe such things a happy Independence Day.

The break-up post

So, I'm a single woman now. Two weeks ago, Vinnie and I decided that we were tired of fighting all the time. We had a good run, but we both agreed that it was time to move on. I'm generally feeling pretty good about things, the kids are handling it remarkably well, and Vinnie is happy living with his girlfriend.

That's not to say that everything's sunshine and roses around here. I'm absolutely freaking out about money and I haven't got laid in almost two months. This is Not Cool. The kids are waking up at weird hours, so I'm not getting near enough sleep and I don't even have time to have a proper wank. That part's no fun. The whole having to take all three kids with me just to run to the gas station pretty much sucks too.

The good news is, I have awesomely supportive parents and that my friends are the greatest people in the world. They've kept me occupied and moving and bought me cigarettes and I love them so much. [info]evilwenchesinc, [info]fille_de_sarai, I would not be holding up so well without you guys. Thank you.

I haven't had a cigarette in four days, and I'm leaving for Dalton, GA in about two hours. I won't be back till Monday! This is the first trip I've taken without my kids coming along since...before I had kids. I'll miss them terribly, but I'm sure the time away will do me a world of good. I'm going with my dear, wonderful, OMGBFF [info]evilwenchesinc to see her family, who she talks about all the time and I'm absolutely thrilled that I finally get to meet some of them. Yay!

Mylar? Mylar?! That's just lame. If I were someone who anyone paid attention to, or if I wrote Heroes fic, I'd totally go with the long form name (i.e. the government stole my toad): MoSylar, mo problems.

Since I'm apparently posty as fuck today, can anyone answer a question for me? I'm looking for the most wonderfully horrific dementer fanart I've ever seen. I don't remember who did it, but it was quite a long time ago. If I recall correctly, it was done in pencil and looked like something out of Alien. I'm really horrible at describing things like this, but I thought it was worth a shot.

I was walking past a newspaper machine yesterday, and the headline splashed all the way across the top of the front page read:
End of the World coming Saturday...drive carefully

It was a thing of great beauty. The reference, of course was to the annual End of the World All-Greek stepshow and party, which shuts down half of my town and draws about 10,000 people from around the country.

It was a Monday morning, and I was riding the big yellow school bus to my university, which was for some reason housed at my old junior high school. I was worried that I would be late, which it turned out I was, because one of my friends pulled a gun and started shooting random people on the bus. We all finally bail out about 2 blocks from the school, and run through a bunch of backyards to get to class.

When I get there, I'm late, but for some reason my lit theory professor, who we'll call Frau Dr. Hottie, was not in class, and she cornered me to grill me on why I'd skipped class when I was supposed to be presenting. I told her about the shooting, and she let me off. I ran into the teacher of my next class, one Professor Severus Snape, in the hallway, and he berated me about having missed the day before.

And then I woke up. Fucking weird, man.

By way of [info]starsprinkles

1. Grab the nearest book.
2. Open the book to page 23.
3. Find the fifth sentence.
4. Post the text of the next three sentences in your journal along with these instructions.
5. Don't dig for your favorite book, the cool book, or the intellectual one: pick the CLOSEST.

In the second place, to emphasize the work seems to involve severing it from those who actually read it, and this severance may seem drastic and therefore disastrous. After all, literature is written to be read. Wordsworth's poet was a man speaking to men.

If you hadn't caught me during homework time, it would have been something from Blake's Songs of Innocence.

Title: Petunia's Promise
Rating: G
Characters: Lily, Petunia
Words: just shy of 1,700
Summary: Lily asks Petunia for a favor. Set shortly before Harry's birth.
Notes: I've always thought there was more to Petunia's relationship with Lily than jealousy and spite. I started this about a year ago, and promptly left it languishing on my hard drive. Thank WIP amnesty month for bringing it back to my attention. Also, thank my darling husband, [info]metaphys_ninja, for pointing out my glaring typos.
